Compared to several states to the west, South Dakota is not even in the conversation of places in danger of experiencing a water crisis. Arizona, New Mexico, California and Colorado are increasingly in panic mode trying to find reliable sources of drinking water to quench the thirst of growing populations and future generations.

It is not that often someone else says to us, “try harder,” but often a message we say to ourselves. Most would agree that we are our own worst critics. One of the most transformative ideas in Aundi Kolber’s book, Try Softer, is deceptively simple: mindfulness begins with noticing — noticing without judgment. Instead of reacting, fixing, or criticizing what we observe inside ourselves, it is important we learn to notice or become familiar with what is going on inside of ourselves. This posture of compassionate awareness is the opposite of the harsh self‑criticism many of us carry, and it is often the missing ingredient in our attempts to grow, heal, or care for others.

I don’t hand out endorsements lightly, and I can honestly say it’s hard to even put into words how impressed I’ve been with Senator Mykala Voita of District 21. She has been such a breath of fresh air in the Legislature.

The White House today announced a 200-day suspension of certain tariff- rate quotas for beef, a move that is expected to increase imports of foreign beef into the United States at a time when the U.S. cattle herd has already declined to historically low levels.

On Friday, May 8th, the Gregory 5th-8th grade band students participated in the area instrumental solo music contest at Winner. Gregory had a total of 14 I+’s, 54 I’s, 12 I-‘s, 6 II+’s, 3 II’s, and 1 II- for a total of 90 entries.

Dakota Nicole Timanus of Gregory was among a record 3,762 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during commencement exercises May 8-9. Timanus earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the College of Engineering.
