Several bills that strengthen families in South Dakota will go into effect on July 1st. “South Dakota will continue to strengthen families and promote life,” said Governor Noem.

Stukel named track and field coach of the year

To say that ending the 2023 boys track season in a tie with Ipswich at the state meet was exciting is an understatement. With only nine members qualified for the state track meet, a lot of strategy had to go into planning which events each would participate in to achieve the highest number of points for the team. Construction on Platte-Winner Bridge project could begin this fall

Public meetings were held June 20 and 21 in Winner and Platte, respectively, as part of the formal comment period associated with publication of the environmental assessment and section 4(f) evaluations of the Francis Case Memorial Bridge project, more commonly known as the Platte-Winner Bridge.

The Liberty Bell

One of the most iconic symbols of our national heritage - the Liberty Bell - hangs magnificently in the City of Brotherly Love. In 1751, the Pennsylvania Assembly ordered the bell to commemorate the commonwealth’s fiftieth anniversary of William Penn’s 1701 Charter of Privileges. Pen wrote of the liberties afforded by a people who trust, solemnly profess and worship - in his words - the “Almighty God being the only Lord of Conscience, Father of Lights and Spirits; and the Author as well as Object of all divine knowledge, faith, and worship; and in Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World.”

Liberty in limits

Tom Landry, former Hall of Fame Coach of the Dallas Cowboys and a great man of faith in Christ, once had this to say: “Most successful football players not only accept rules and limitations, but, I believe, they need them. Players are free to perform at their best only when they know what the expectations are where the limits stand. I see this as a biblical principle that also applies to life, a principle our society as a whole has forgotten: you can’t enjoy true freedom without limits.”

Freedom

In the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, VA, there is a special display for a rickety, home-made aluminum kayak. This tiny, makeshift boat seems oddly out of place in the midst of displays for impressive Navy vessels and artifacts from significant battles on the sea. But a bronze plaque tells museum visitors the story behind this kayak’s heroic makers.
