Gregory County 4-H holds annual Youth in Action Day

Gregory County 4-H held their annual Youth in Action Day, public presentations contest on Wednesday, May 3rd ,at 4:00 p.m. at the Burke Civic Center. This year, 10 youth participated in the event. Participants, presentation topics, and results include the following: Owen Schulte, Cloverbud - How to Make Hot Cocoa Mix; Cloverbud Ribbon Brysen Bailey, Beginner - How to Set Four Kinds of Traps; Purple Jhett Schulte, Beginner - How to Make Pancakes; Blue Ryder Meyer, Beginner - Ready, Set, Go!; Purple Sadie Andrews, Beginner Horse Colors; Purple Milly Meyer, Beginner - Good Enough to Eat?; Purple Jack Schulte, Junior - Farmall Over the Years; Purple Shyanne Williams, Junior Resin Fun; Purple Brooklyn Bailey, Junior - How to Saddle and Bridle Your Horse; Purple Addie Dostal, Junior - How to Prepare a Chicken for Showing; Purple The top beginner public presentation award went to Sadie Andrews, with reserve beginner going to Brysen Bailey.

Funeral services set for Paul Vanden Bosch Funeral services for Paul Vanden Bosch, age 83, of Gregory, SD, will be held at the Berean Church on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday evening at the church at 7:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the prayer service. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

High demand for begindergarten sparks conversation in Gregory Schools

Third grade teacher Mrs. Kristen Jacobsen took attendees on a short trip to her classroom for the Gorilla Good News portion of the Gregory School District Board of Education’s regular meeting, which was held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2023.

Vy Nguyen to speak at Gregory’s eighth-grade graduation on May 16

As the top-ranked member of the Gregory High School class of 2023, Vy Nguyen will address the eighth grade class at their graduation at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2023. The daughter of Mai Khuu and Joe Nguyen, Vy is the eldest of four siblings - Vivian, Vina, and Aaron.

Plumbtree takes over highway department for good this time

Tyler Plumtree is back in the boss’s seat for the county highway department after the Gregory County Board of Commissioners held their regular meeting at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2023. After adjourning from executive session to discuss personnel, the board accepted the resignation of Highway Superintendent Kevin Green, effective May 16.

Governor proclaims May as Foster Parent Appreciation Month

Governor Kristi Noem has named May as Foster Parent Appreciation Month to recognize families that have stepped forward to help provide care, stability, and permanency for South Dakota children. “Foster families have chosen an essential and truly noble role for our communities,” said Department of Social Services Cabinet Secretary Matt Althoff.

Britnie Kenzy opens new therapeutic massage business

Britnie Kenzy, licensed massage therapist, recently opened the doors to her new business, Corrective Connections Massage & Therapeutics. Located in suite #3 at 621 Main (accessed through the door on the east side of the building, in the alley), Kenzy is available by appointment to help her clients ease sore muscles, sleep better, decrease stress, and much more through massage therapy.

Gregory Co. Prairie Patriots host appreciation meal

On Saturday, April 29, 2023, the Gregory County Prairie Patriots hosted an appreciation meal for those who kept our roads open and, our power on during this rough winter. The hard-working men and women, along with their families, enjoyed a meal of smoked brisket, prime rib, baked potatoes, salads, and desserts - no one left hungry. Patriots’ member Alyssa Liewer came up with the idea and the group ran with it. The group reached out to area businesses and residents to ask for donations to help with the costs of hosting the event, and several answered this call. Local businesses and individuals also donated salads, desserts, and door prizes. Any leftover monetary donations were given as a free drink tickets and door prizes so that everything went back to these hard-working folks and their families.
