Volunteers clean up Burke Lake

On Sunday, April 16, 2023, an ambitious group of volunteers joined together for the first Burke Lake clean-up of the season. Sixteen Gregory County residents worked hard to clean up this winter's trash, create many large piles of tree limbs, branches and sticks, and removal of all of the piles. The group split up and worked from the boat docks to the north and all the way to the camping area, included part of the walking trail not blocked by trees and snow. A small portion of the group also went to the other recreation areas to pick up trash. Although it was a windy day, much was accomplished.

AG Jackley praises preliminary injunction on WOTUS rule

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced on April 12 that a federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction halting the Biden administration from implementing a new definition of the “Waters of the United States (WOTUS)” rule in South Dakota and other states.

Commissioners have short agenda at regular meeting

The agenda was brief as the Gregory County commissioners met for their regular meeting Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in the Gregory County Courthouse. 4-H youth program leader Jamie Wolf discussed current youth activities with the board, and a travel request for Ashley Meyer to attend fair training in Mitchell on April 24 was approved.

Precision agriculture service now available in Gregory area

A soon-to-be Mitchell Technical Institute graduate has come up with an innovative idea to help area farmers and ranchers. Aaron Sundquist, a 2020 Gregory High School graduate and member of the Air National Guard 114 Fighter Wing, is completing his degree in precision agriculture.
