Two wrestlers and one alternate headed to state

The girls high school Region 3 wrestling tournament was held February 20, 2025, in Aberdeen. Daytona Paris punched her ticket for her second state tournament appearance with a fourth place finish, winning two of her four matches. A win against Hannah Zeigler of Miller/ Highmore-Harrold in the consolation rounds put her in the match for third, but Liliana Luque of Mitchell got the upper hand in that contest.
Long stretch of sub-zero temps turn to welcome warmth

Big temperature swings aren’t unusual in this part of the country, but the weather we’ve had lately could be called extreme. The end of January had us enjoying mild temperatures in the 50s, but once February arrived, we had snow, sunshine, gusty winds, and unpredictable temperatures.
Gorillas increase record to 16-2

Gregory 51 Platte/Geddes 45 (OT) In a nail-biting overtime contest, the Gregory Gorillas emerged victorious with a 51-45 win over Platte/Geddes. The game was a rollercoaster of momentum swings, with both teams locked at 40-40 at the end of regulation before Gregory outscored the Black Panthers 11-5 in overtime to seal the win.
Taos Weborg etches his name in the rodeo books

Taos Weborg may not have been born on a horse, but it wasn’t long after that he started on his path to trying to stay on animals. “I started riding sheep when I was probably three,” he estimated.
Kalenda headed to Vegas for national bagger competition

Brian Kalenda, bagger extraordinaire at Buche Foods in Gregory, is headed to Las Vegas for the best bagger competition at the National Grocers Association Convention (NGA Show 2025) February 23-25, 2025, at Caesars Forum Convention Center. To get to this level, Kalenda has competed in store and state competitions for the last four years. In September he claimed the state title at the South Dakota State Fair to earn this trip to the national championship.
Bice launches backhoe business in Gregory

Bice Backhoe Service, LLC, is Sid Bice’s new business venture in Gregory. Bice has about seven years’ experience in the backhoe business, the last five with Storms Trenching in Winner and two years before that with Storms’ uncle.
