A celebration of life for Mark Everett Lindquist, age 56, of Gregory, South Dakota, was held at 5 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Prairie View Gospel Barn in Gregory. Honorary urn bearers were Roy Groeneweg, Steve Esterling, Jim Mikkelsen, Chris Lindquist, Kalvin Walker, Scott Zimbelman, Tanner Reuer, and Alan Spanns. Burial on the Lindquist ranch will take place at a later date. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mark was born on December 1, 1969, in Burke, South Dakota, to Arvid and Janice (Fode) Lindquist. He was the second-born son in the family and grew up with a love for animals, the outdoors, and hard work. He was known for sneaking extra food for his share of the animals. He graduated from Gregory High School, where he played football throughout his high school years.
After graduating, he attended vo-tech school for auto body repair. Mark was also talented with computers and enjoyed rebuilding them. His job in Yankton would often fly him out to California to help reprogram computers. Mark got the call to come back to the family farm to help his folks. He loved to farm along with his dad and grandpa Everett. In October of 1998, he was blessed with his daughter Keva.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Mark found joy in raising cattle and hogs, deer hunting over east and in Harding County, coyote hunting, and spending time in the Hills with his buddies mountain lion hunting. Mark was always happiest when surrounded by friends, family, good food, and humorous conversation. Mark’s garage, better known as “Mark Star”, was where he and his buddies would gather after a day of hunting to enjoy good food, stories, and cold ones.
More than anything, Mark loved his daughter, Keva. Some of his favorite memories were made bonding over cattle, fishing around at local dams, deer hunting on the coldest days, driving four wheelers, and going to Keva’s rodeos. He was proud to be a rodeo dad. He loved sharing the traditions and experiences of the farm. Their bond was something he treasured deeply throughout his life and continued through his grandchildren.
Mark was known for his sharp wit, humor, and gift of gab. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Above all, he was a great dad and awesome grandpa to his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. In the last months, Mark took care of his Dad, driving him to coffee, going on small road trips to see the grandkids, and driving the back roads telling stories.
Mark passed away on May 14, 2026, unexpectedly at the Lindquist family farm.
He is survived by his daughter, Keva (Miles) Kreeger; his grandchildren Sterling Kreeger and Lindy Kreeger; his father Arvid Lindquist; brother Steve (Toni) Lindquist; nephew Chris (Whitney) Lindquist; and great-nephew Axel Lindquist.
He was preceded in death by his mother Janice Lindquist.
