Cross country teams place three top-five finishes in Winner

The Gregory High School cross country team attended their first meet of the season on Friday, August 26, in Winner. Gregory claimed two of the top three spots in the varsity division with Luke Sinclair coming in second with a time of 19:54.97 and Fin Adams close behind in third with a 20:03.83.

Locally grown beef arrives at school

This year’s locally grown beef has been delivered to the Gregory School District. Several football players and younger students helped unload the many boxes of hamburger that were processed from the three head of beef donated to the school. Jessy and Katie Biggins donated one head, Bob and Cindy Diekman donated another, and Greg and Pat Lundberg and First Fidelity Bank contributed toward the third. The school paid for the processing.

Gregory Gorillas prepare for 2022 football season

The Gregory Gorillas football team is prepping for the 2022 season with a strong team that includes 13 returning letter winners. 2022 will be Mike Murray’s second year as head coach for the Gorillas.

Teener players chosen for all-star game in Humboldt

Two players from the Gregory County Teeners baseball team were chosen to participate in the SD VFW Baseball 16U Showcase and Wood Bat All-Star Game in Humboldt, SD, on Saturday, August 13. Rylan Peck and Gannon Thomas were nominated by region coaches for the honor.

Dr. Freeman to join WRH team

Winner Regional Health recently announced that Dr. Frederick Freeman, a board–certified Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) physician will be joining our outreach clinics starting on August 26, 2022. This is a new service for Winner Regional Health - one that has been greatly needed.

Fall State Square Dance Festival to be held Sept. 9 & 10

The South Dakota State Square, Folk, and Round Dance Association is sponsoring the fall state square dance festival in Hermosa, SD. The event will be held September 9 and 10, 2022, and will be hosted by the Southern Hills Promenaders Square Dance Club. The theme of the festival is “Let’s have a good time in Hermosa, SD”.

Gregory Legion Post 6 finishes third in state baseball tournament

Last Monday’s win against Winner in the 2022 South Dakota American Legion State Class B Sr. Baseball Tournament put Gregory Legion Post 6 in the top three of the state and in a matchup against Vermillion on Tuesday, August 2, in a playoff for the championship game. Vermillion got off to an early lead on the brutally hot day, in which game times were moved back several hours to try to beat the heat, but Gregory couldn’t recover in a 12-5 loss.

Fall sports are getting started but we still have seven weeks of summer

As hot as it has been, it will still be hard for many of us to say good-bye to summer. Even though pumpkin spice (or maple walnut if that is your preference) and crisp, cool autumn days are still a ways off, the calendar says that the first day of school is just around the corner.
