Gregory County Legion took the lead late and defeated the Menno/Scotland Trappers 6-3 on Sunday, June 5. Gregory County opened up scoring in the first inning as Ben Witt singled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs.

Small nonfarm businesses in 19 South Dakota counties are now eligible to apply for low-interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by drought in the following primary counties that began May 10, 2022.

Inclement weather shortened the first day of the state golf tournament in Rapid City on Monday, June 6. Over 60 golfers were unable to finish their rounds, including individual leader Cooper Long from Garretson.

The Gregory boys golf team placed second at the regional tournament in Mitchell on Tuesday, May 24, punching the ticket for the team to compete in the state tournament. Gregory’s arch rival, Ethan, whom they bested in the pre-regional tournament, beat the boys by only two points to claim first.

Gregory County easily dispatched Chamberlain/Kimball/ Lyman 10-1 on Monday, May 23, in region play. Gregory County opened up scoring in the second inning when Gannon Thomas tagged up after a caught fly to right field.

Gregory County watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 20-2 loss to Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake on Monday, May 23, in region play. The Honkers scored on a single by Hanson, a single by Christensen, a stolen base by C. Foxley, and an error in the first inning.

South Central Storm men’s amateur baseball team snatched the lead late in the game in a 7-6 victory over the Gold Sox on Thursday, May 26, in Plankinton. The game was tied at six with the Storm batting in the top of the eighth when VanDerWerff singled on a 2-0 count, and one run was scored.

The Gregory Gorilla track team traveled to the state meet in Sioux Falls to compete against the best of the best in South Dakota track and field. This was the first time that the state meet was held with all three classes B, A, and AA competing at the same time in the same venue over a three-day period. This new format presented opportunities and challenges for our athletes.

The Gregory track team traveled to Platte on May 19th, to compete in the Region track meet. “The day turned out to be very successful for both individual events and the team standings.
