Gregory County watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 20-2 loss to Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake on Monday, May 23, in region play. The Honkers scored on a single by Hanson, a single by Christensen, a stolen base by C. Foxley, and an error in the first inning.

South Central Storm grabs lead in eighth inning to defeat Gold Sox

South Central Storm men’s amateur baseball team snatched the lead late in the game in a 7-6 victory over the Gold Sox on Thursday, May 26, in Plankinton. The game was tied at six with the Storm batting in the top of the eighth when VanDerWerff singled on a 2-0 count, and one run was scored.

Gorilla tracksters return home with hardware from the state meet

The Gregory Gorilla track team traveled to the state meet in Sioux Falls to compete against the best of the best in South Dakota track and field. This was the first time that the state meet was held with all three classes B, A, and AA competing at the same time in the same venue over a three-day period. This new format presented opportunities and challenges for our athletes.

Fogel takes the top spot in pre-region tournament

The Pre-Regional Golf Tournament was held in Mitchell on Friday, May 20, and the Gregory boys came out on top with a score of 237, led by Eli Fogel, who was the first place finisher. Ethan came in second in the field of 11 with 242 points.

The Future of Gorilla Football is Bright

On last Tuesday and Wednesday, May 17th and 18th, the Gregory varsity football team hosted a youth football camp at Mike Dacy field. Eighty campers attended the event ranging from six to twelve years in age. Gregory football players and coaches were instructors for the camp, and opened each session with football fundamentals, drills, and skills. Campers were sent to different stations around the field to practice running, tackling, passing, catching, and blocking, utilizing cones, bags, and youth footballs. After a much needed popsicle break, all campers were split into teams for flag football games. All campers received a camp tee shirt and some grass stains free of charge.

Gregory Co. 4-H offers step by step painting

Gregory County 4-H holds a step-by-step painting workshop for kids from ages 5 to 18 years old on Thursday, May 19th, at the Burke Civic Center. At this workshop, the kids got to explore their creative abilities and find their artists within. There were two sessions - a session in the morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and a session in the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The morning session was for the kids ages 5 to 9 years old and they painted a colorful fishes using watercolors, and the afternoon session was for the kids ages 10 to 18 years old and they painted jellyfishes with acrylic paint!

Two Gregory County pitchers combine for a shutout

Gregory County defeated Belle Fourche Varsity Broncs 8-0 on Friday, May 20, at home as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Gregory County fired up the offense in the first inning, when Gunner Stephens grounded out, allowing Sawyer Tietgen to score the first run.
