Chris McAllister gets the trophy of a lifetime

Chris McAllister had the opportunity to hunt the twelfth largest grizzly on record in May.

The bear’s skull measured 27 inches, and the hide nine feet. The skull will go over Chris’s fireplace, and the hide will make a nice rug.

After 21 hours of hunting in non-stop rain, McAllister and his guide would remove their rain gear and boots and crawl into the pup tent for a few hours of sleep before starting in for another day. It was an eerie feeling to wake up one morning and find that the grizzly had been within 40 yards of their tent.

The grizzly’s paw was almost the size of Chris’s face.

The bear reared up, growled, and spun around when the bullet hit him. He knew exactly where McAllister was. He went about 40 yard from there before falling into the water.

A couple short ropes were all McAllister and his guide had to work with to get the 700 pound bear, now wet and muddy, up on solid land and rolled over to field dress.

Judging by the bear’s teeth, he is estimated to be about 20-25 years old. One tooth was sent away for analysis, but results won’t be available for about a year.
