Gregory Co. 4-H summer workshops wind down

On Sunday, July 13, 2025, 4-H youth from Gregory and Tripp County traveled to Valentine, NE, for a Beef Mentorship Clinic hosted by Josh Delaney and Andy Dawson at the Delaney Cattle Services facility. Youth learned about daily care including washing, drying, and fitting of beef. Josh and Andy also went over the fundamentals of beef showmanship.

On Thursday, July 17, 2025, youth had the opportunity to tour Tom and Peg Glover’s garden. They explored a wide variety of plants and learned more about the growing process firsthand. The group also visited the wash and prep station where fresh produce is prepared for the Burke Area Farmers Market.

On Monday, July 21, 2025, 4-H youth participated in a canning workshop led by Nikki and Santanya Matucha. During the workshop, they learned the step-by-step process of canning salsa and tomato juice. From chopping fresh produce to mixing in various add-ins, participants gained valuable knowledge about the ingredients and techniques that go into making a flavorful homemade salsa.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Gregory County 4-H hosted two exciting sessions of a Found Art workshop led by local artist and educator Chris Baldwin at the Gregory City Park.

Youth explored nature and turned ordinary outdoor objects into extraordinary works of art. Using materials like leaves, sticks, pinecones, and rocks, the 4-Her’s let their creativity shine during this hands-on, youth-led exploration day. Along the way, they also learned fun facts about bugs and the environment around them.
