Hospitals have come a long way since Gregory’s early days

  • The former hospital at 405 Whittecar Street was completed April 1, 1951. It was most recently used as the medical clinic for Avera Gregory Medical Group.

  • The Gassen home, once a showplace in Gregory, was used as a hospital for a time. Located at 904 Felton Street, it was later converted to apartments. Currently owned by David Madrid, it is now a run-down eyesore.

  • The house at 202 East 11th Street was probably used as a hospital longer than the other hospital houses around Gregory. It was operated by Mrs. Hoblit from 1933-36 at which time, the Franciscan Sisters took over management until 1948, and it was given the name Mother of Grace. The Franciscan Sisters were operating the hospital when the new hospital was built at 405 Whittecar, which they also operated.
