A look back at Gregory County in 2021

Richard and Sara Grim, owners of Grim Ranch, were named the winners of the Conservation Producer 2020 Hugh Hammond Bennett Award for Conservation Excellence for their outstanding conservation efforts on their ranch in Gregory County.

District 21 legislators visited Gregory to give their Gregory County constituents an opportunity to provide input and ask questions about issues being considered during the 2021 legislative session.

The Gregory County Patriots took on the first phase of a clean-up of the Burke Lake this fall.

The federal administration’s plan to control 30% of all U.S. land and water by 2030 spurred county residents to learn more at a public meeting and eventually pushed the county commissioners to pass a resolution to resist these efforts.

The remains of nine ancestors taken from the Sicangu Lakota to attend the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania more than 140 years ago were returned to Whetstone Bay by caravan for a ceremony before being buried in a veterans’ cemetery or in family graveyards.

Ryggan Lambley of Burke, Taos Weborg of St. Charles, David Biggins of Gregory, and Aidyn Garwood of Butte, NE, competed in the Junior Roughstock World Finals in Las Vegas.
