Schmitz appointed assistant supt. of Highway Patrol
The South Dakota Highway Patrol has announced the appointment of Major Austin Schmitz (r) as its new Assistant Superintendent. Schmitz will now oversee the agency’s administrative operations. Major Schmitz brings 16 years of experience within the Highway Patrol to his new role. His tenure includes service as a police service dog handler and leadership in key operations. He has also been recognized for bravery, including an Act of Valor Award in 2020 for a rescue on Lake Sharpe.
