Travel is smooth sailing on Gregory’s resurfaced streets

At the regular meeting of the Gregory City Council, held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Public Works Superintendent Josey Larsen reported that the streets that were resurfaced this summer are done, and he is pleased with how they turned out. He indicated that the rock pile at the athletic field would be moved soon. Mayor Al Cerny said he would like to do more streets next summer. Next on the department’s list to tackle is tree trimming.

Superintendent Anderson ready to showcase new construction and remodel projects

All contractors involved in the kitchen remodel are scheduled to be at the school this week to finish up any last items, according to Superintendent Sara Anderson at the regular meeting of the Gregory School District Board of Education at noon, Monday, September 9, 2024. Anderson plans to hold an open house before the next school board meeting in order to showcase the kitchen and wellness center.

Mark Braun completes 9/11 Stair Climb event at Lambeau Field

On Saturday September 7, local volunteer firefighter Mark Braun participated in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI. 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb events are a tribute to the 343 firefighters who gave their lives during the tragic events at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Sons of American Legion to hold regular meeting

The Sons of the American Legion will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Legion Post in Gregory. The meeting will start at 8:00 p.m. and all members and potential members are encouraged to attend.

Rescues Unlimited was recipient of Mutts Across America grant

Rescues Unlimited was selected as one of the 52 Mutts Across America recipients for a $5,000 grant from Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation and Tractor Supply Company. Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation grant program was launched in 2014 to acknowledge the high value they placed on well-run shelters to annually recognize an exemplary shelter in each of the 50 states with a surprise grant.

Jackley, Board of Regents file complaint against NCAA settlement plan

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced his office and the South Dakota Board of Regents, on behalf of South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota, have filed a complaint against the NCAA and its proposed settlement on its past conduct.

Gregory Co. 4-Hers perform well at State Fair

4-H members represented Gregory County at the South Dakota State Fair from Wednesday, August 28 through Monday, September 2. The 4-H participants brought goats and poultry, showcasing their dedication and hard work.

South Dakota’s best grocery bagger crowned at State Fair

Brian Kalenda of Buche Foods in Gregory took the top prize at the South Dakota Best Bagger Competition on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Hosted by the South Dakota Retailers Association and sponsored by Associated Wholesale Grocers, NW French & Associates, and Prairie Farms, eleven contestants from across the state went headto- head to compete for the title of South Dakota’s Best Bagger.
