Annual predator 2023 meeting held in Colome, next meeting to be held September 9, 2024

The annual supper/meeting of the Tripp/Gregory County Predator Control District was held in the Colome American Legion on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. President Butch Rolf called the meeting to order with the recitation of the Flag Pledge and a moment of silent prayer and respect in memory of these lives lost in 911.

Gregory runners have solid performance in Winner last Friday

Luke Barreto and Fin Adams put Gregory in the top spots at the Winner cross country meet on Friday, August 30, 2024. Barreto finished first with a time of 18:46.2, followed shortly by Adams in second place with a time of 19:09.4.

“Dignity” quilt to be raffled for roof repairs

The Gregory Legion is in need of some roof repairs, and the Legion Auxiliary is stepping in to help raise money to pay for it. The auxiliary has a locallymade quilt that they are raffling off.

Gregory county enrollment numbers show an increase

The Gregory School District’s enrollment numbers have remained steady for the past three years with a total of 436 students enrolled the first week of school, up one from 2023-24 and the same as 2022-23.

Study committee on property tax assessment methodology seeking public testimony for September meeting to be held in Pierre

When the Study Committee on Property Tax Assessment Methodology holds its third meeting of the 2024 Interim on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, members will have their ears open, ready to listen. Co-chairs Senator Randy Deibert (R-Spearfish) and Representative Drew Peterson (R-Salem) are encouraging the public to attend and provide their comments, concerns, and questions on property tax assessments in South Dakota.

Grain elevators closing leave farmers with fewer choices

Earlier this year, Hansen-Mueller shut down and sold the grain elevator in Gregory, followed a few months later by the announcement that CHS is shutting down the elevator in Dallas. These closures leave the area with only the CHS elevators in Fairfax and Winner in operation.

County’s wind energy ordinance passes second reading and is

Ed Dostal was in attendance at the regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners, held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2024, to comment on the second and final reading of the county’s wind energy systems ordinance. In addition, Tom Madsen, who has been working with Dostal to establish a wind farm on his land, was on the phone to discuss the ordinance.

Ian Kirkpatrick graduates from MSOE

Ian Kirkpatrick of Burke, SD, graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) located in Milwaukee, WI, in the spring of 2024. Kirkpatrick received a bachelor of science degree in Computer Science.

Golden West members can vote in directors’ election online, by mail, or in person

For the first time, Golden West Telecommunications Cooperative members may vote in the 2024 Board of Directors election online or by mail through Sept. 24. Members who do not vote in advance have the option to cast a ballot in person at the cooperative’s 72nd annual meeting to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Community Center in Wall.
