University of Neb. announces Dean’s List

More than 6,600 University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE, students have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 2023-24 academic year. 

Local students named where Elly Lois Witt, of Burke, SD, sophomore, College of Education and Human Sciences, communication
sciences and disorders.

Magician to perform at Gregory Public Library

Most patrons already know that the library is a magical place where they can transport themselves to any place or time they can imagine through the pages of a book. On July 1, that magical quality will take on a whole new meaning as the Gregory Public Library hosts magician Jeff Quinn for an afternoon of fun and seemingly impossible illusions.

Area residents ready for the rain to stop for awhile

The blessing of rain turned into a curse for some as last week’s accumulations were too much for the land and streams to contain. The City of Gregory’s official total from June 17-23 was 4.79 inches, but surrounding areas had significantly more.

Chemical spill cause for concern for Gregory County residents

Bart and Jen Diekmann, Jade Siewert, and Roy Stevicks were in attendance at the regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, June 20, 2024, to bring attention to a chemical spill near their homes as well as the lack of attention by officials to address the matter.

Gregory County Catholic parishes hold eucharistic procession

In a historic event, all four Gregory County Catholic parishes joined together for a eucharistic procession in Gregory, on June 19. The purpose of a eucharistic procession is to openly demonstrate support and reverence for Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist.

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, youth got artsy during the painting workshop. Youth used painter’s tape to cover their canvases and painted over them to create name portraits and other fun designs. The attendees learned about complimentary colors and blending multiple colors.

One Book SD author to lead discussion at Gregory Public Library

Author Trent Preszler will be at the Gregory Public Library at 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2024, to discuss his book Little and Often as part of the One Book South Dakota Author Tour. The annual One Book South Dakota Author Tour, funded by a grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, provides South Dakotans opportunities to attend an event in their area featuring the One Book SD author.
