Rumford the rodeo clown to entertain again at the Burke Stampede Rodeo

Just say his name and we double dog dare you not to smile or down right laugh. The Burke Stampede Rodeo committee is tickled to land another year of entertainment from the now ten time PRCA Rodeo Clown of the year Justin Rumford. That’s right, the funniest guy in rodeo, we affectionately call “Rump”, is coming back to entertain crowds at all three performances of the Burke Stampede Rodeo.

Rain, glorious rain!

In the wee hours of Monday morning, the Gregory area saw something that hasn’t been seen much for months—rain. That is, actual rain, not the light drizzle or five minutes of a shower that has become the norm here, but rain.

Street talk is on agenda as Gregory City Council meets

Jeff McCormick of SPN Consulting Engineers was in attendance at the regular meeting of the Gregory City Council on Monday, June 17, to update the council on ongoing and upcoming projects. The curb and gutter are completed on the First Street project and now the contractor has to prep the gravel for asphalt, and he is done. VanderPol Dragline sent out a letter apologizing for taking so long and explaining that weather and concrete contractor availability have contributed to the delay. Currently Commercial Asphalt is scheduled to pave starting June 24, but that will be dependent on the weather.

Spiritual Run for the Sacred Pipe makes its way around SD

On June 3, several Native American runners arrived in Gregory as part of their 869-mile Spiritual Run for the Sacred Pipe. The run started in Santee, NE, on June 2, as members of the Santee tribe made their way to Pickstown, where runners from the Yankton Sioux and Ponca Tribes took over.

AG Jackley announces $700 million settlement against Johnson and Johnson

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that he and 42 other attorneys general have reached a $700 million nationwide settlement to resolve allegations related to the marketing of Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder and body powder products that contained talc.

Crow Eagle wins annual Father’s Day Tournament

Fifty-three golfers participated in the annual Father’s Day Golf Tournament held at the Gregory Golf Course on June 16, 2024. The day was a bit cool and cloud covered, but no rain.
