Three people shot to death in South Dakota town; former mayor charged

Centerville, SD (AP) — Three people were shot to death in a small South Dakota town, and a former law officer who once served as the town’s mayor is charged in the killings. Jay Ostrem, 64, was jailed on $1 million cash-only bond on three counts of first-degree murder, South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley said May 28 in a news release.

Fourth ballot question validated for 2024 General Election

(Pierre, SD) - Secretary of State Monae L. Johnson announces that a petition submitted for an initiated measure was validated and filed by her office today. This ballot question would legalize the recreational use, possession, and distribution of marijuana. The title for the ballot question will be Initiated Measure 29, and it will appear on the 2024 General Election ballot on November 5, 2024.

Don’t forget to vote on June 4

The South Dakota primary election is coming up next Tuesday, June 4, but local voters will have very few decisions to make at the ballot box. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents or those with no party affiliation will have a choice about hand-counting ballots for future legislative elections held in Gregory County.
