Becks announce birth of daughter

Demi and Jonah Beck of Gregory, SD, would like to announce the birth of their daughter Lyla Sue Beck. She was born on May 23, 2024, at 7:45 a.m.

Gregory, Winner, and Colome Catholic Daughters hold joint installation

The joint installation of newly elected officers of Ct. St. Frances #547 in Gregory, Ct. Mary Imelda #1014 in Winner, and Ct. St. Maria Goretti #1584 in Colome was held at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Colome, SD, on June 5, 2024. The installation was preceded by Mass at 6:00 p.m., and supper was served by the Colome court after the installation ceremony, which was conducted by Joan Grim, District Deputy.

75th Annual Czech Days to be held in Tabor on June 14 & 15

THURSDAY --- Merriam’s Midway Shows carnival on the midway and the Craft Fair & Kvocny Quilt Show in the school gym kick off the 75th Annual Czech Days celebration on Thursday, June 13th. The Tabor Bluebirds baseball game with Lesterville will be at 7:30 p.m. in Leonard Cimpl Park followed by the Rich Schild Memorial fireworks display to conclude the first day of the Czech Days celebration.

God creating the Father

When the good Lord was creating fathers he started with a tall frame. And a female angel nearby said, “What kind of father is that? If you’re going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put fathers up so high? He won’t be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping.” And God smiled and said, “Yes, but if I make him childsize, who would children have to look up to?”

Council agrees: let the flag fly all the time

At the regular meeting of the Gregory City Council, held at 6:00 pm., Monday, June 3, Police Chief Ryan Cook reported that he had spoken to the Buttes Scenic Overlook volunteer group regarding their policy for flying the flag on top of the buttes. Currently, their rule is that the flag comes down if the wind is over 15 miles per hour, which has caused complaints from residents, especially since it was not flying on Memorial Day.

Lauers start new business in Gregory

Kaleb and Kayla Lauer recently launched their new business, Lauer Contracting in the Gregory area. Currently, they are focused on concrete work—sidewalks, driveways, patios, steps, and more—with plans to add services, such as electrical and plumbing after summer, looking toward a future as a full service contractor.

John Hansen leaves a legacy behind after 50 years of teaching and coaching at GHS

1974. That was the year Mr. John Hansen began his legacy with the Gregory School District. And now, after 50 years, although his tenure has come to an end, that legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the students he impacted as well as in the stories that will be told of him in the classrooms of GHS.

University of Sioux Falls announces Spring 2024 Dean’s List

The University of Sioux Falls announced more than 575 students who made the Spring 2024 Dean’s List. Among them were local students, Nicolaus Nelson of Bonesteel, SD, majoring in Business Administration; Christian Spann of Gregory, SD, majoring in English and Secondary Education and Bethany Swift of Burke, SD, majoring in Business Administration..
