Scavenger’s Journey organizers are excited for the 2024 event! Started in 2012, Scavenger’s Journey was modeled after similar successful events. Scavenger’s Journey seeks to promote commerce in small communities by holding citywide garage sales, hosting flea markets, and showcasing local community groups and businesses.

The Gregory School District’s annual Brain Brawl academic challenge between Burke, Colome, Winner, and Gregory was held on April 10. The challenge consists of teams of four from each grade three through eight answering questions from the fields of math, English, science, history, and general knowledge.

The National Chapter Award is the highest honor an FFA chapter can receive and recognizes chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the FFA. Top chapters were recognized at 96th SD FFA Convention, for their outstanding accomplishments. Chapters recognized have developed an active Program of Activities and conducted meaningful events. For the overall state award, a chapter must complete at least 15 activities: one for each of the five quality standards in each of the three divisions - Growing Leaders, Building Communities, and Strengthening Agriculture, and meet the minimum requirements outlined in the National Quality FFA Chapter Standards.

South Dakota FFA members were recognized at the 96th South Dakota State FFA Convention for excellence in developing career-specific skills through their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Proficiency projects.

As valedictorian of the Gregory High School Class of 2024, Eli Barreto will deliver the commencement address at the eighth grade graduation to be held at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 7. The son of Arturo and Jill Barreto, Eli has an older brother, Issac, and a younger brother, Luke.

Mia Haines will be the keynote speaker at the kindergarten graduation at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 7. During her years in the Gregory School District, Haines, an eighth grader, has been involved in competitive cheer and dance, track, band, and choir.

Funeral services to be held for Lyle Christensen, 94 Funeral services for Lyle Christensen, age 94, of Gregory, SD, will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congregational Church in Gregory, SD. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Gregory, SD. There will be a visitation Thursday night at the church from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home in Gregory, SD, is in charge of arrangements.
