Students put skills learned in class to good use for the community

A group of high school students showed up to the regular meeting of the Gregory School District Board of Education, held at 5 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2026, to shine a spotlight on some of the work they have been doing in woods class. On Monday, March 2, 2026, former State Senator Erin Tobin announced she has officially qualified for the Republican Primary ballot in the District 21 Senate race after submitting the required number of petition signatures. Those signatures have now been certified by the Secretary of State.

You’ve probably heard that today’s high beef prices are the result of a recent widespread drought that reduced the size of the domestic cattle herd, and the recent closure of the Mexican border due to the threat of New World screwworm that deprived the U.S. of previously available foreign cattle supplies. This combination is said to have reduced overall beef supplies in the face of strong beef demand, resulting in all-time record beef prices.

Bridget Williams gathered a group of children together in her barn to show them how to safely give a horse a treat. Williams told them not to hold the treat near the horse’s mouth because it can’t see the snack and could mistakenly bite a finger.

New sheriff named in Boyd County following staff departures

After three days with no county law enforcement, Boyd County has a new sheriff. Matt McHale, a longtime law enforcement officer who most recently worked as an investigator and deputy in Holt County, was appointed Boyd County sheriff by unanimous decision by the Boyd County Board of Supervisors during an emergency meeting on Friday, February 27, 2026.
