Amidst uncertainty, Gregory twin pools open

Weeds beginning to head Across South-Central SD and Northern NE As dry conditions continue across south-central South Dakota and northcentral Nebraska, producers are beginning to notice another concern showing up earlier than usual, weeds are already starting to head. Many pasture grasses and invasive weeds are maturing rapidly due to limited moisture and ongoing warm, windy conditions.

Gregory County Farmers Union day camp

Farmers Union hosted a day camp in Gregory, on Thursday, June 4th. Youth spent the afternoon focused on learning more about the history of cooperatives through games and interactive lessons. Time was spent playing games, making crafts, and learning about our food system. Campers learned the importance of producers in our food system and were able to identify the path it takes to get from the field to shelf. Campers were all given a tea towel to decorate with the Farmers Union logo and fruit, vegetable, and farm animal stamps, as this year’s craft. All campers received a T-shirt. CHS and Farmers Union supplied T-shirts and funding.

Commissioners confirm election results

The regular meeting of the Gregory County Board of Commissioners was moved from Tuesday, June 2 to Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in order for the board to canvass the results of the June 2 Primary Election. The results are available elsewhere in this edition of The Gregory Times-Advocate.

Gregory Co. has vigorous voter turn-out in primary election

South Dakota’s Primary Election was held Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Unofficial results show statewide voter turnout was 34.55%, with 171,729 ballots cast. Official results will be available at the conclusion of the State Canvass on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in Pierre.

America 250: How an ordinary tree became a symbol of revolution

As we celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States, the Gregory Times-Advocate is featuring a column periodically to recount key events and people that led to our country’s independence. In the last installment of America 250 (March 25, 2026), we learned about the Sons of Liberty and the role they played in, often unwittingly, planting the seeds of an independence that few were ready to consider at the time.

Incident at school draws concerned crowd to board meeting

Concerned parents and other community members attended the regular meeting of the Gregory School District Board of Education on Monday, June 8, 2026. In spite of the sizable number present, only Karley Arizmendis signed up to speak.

City Council holds special meeting

The Gregory City Council held a special meeting at 5 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2026, to canvass the results of the mayoral election, held June 2, 2026. Refer to the election results on page 1 of this issue of The Gregory Times-Advocate.
