Sweater weather, soups, bonfires, pheasants, beer gardens, polka music - the good parts of autumn that help us let go of the long days of summer are here, and the Gregory/ Dallas Chamber of Commerce has an event planned - with all these ingredients and more - to celebrate the season.
Bailey Veskrna uses Sam’s Farm Festival to honor her father

Sam’s Farm Festival has undergone a few changes since its inception a year ago. A popular local attraction, the festival, which is open every Sunday in October, features a large variety of activities, vignettes, food, and a small gift shop. Every direction you turn has something different to investigate - a llama, chickens, a pig, a garden in which children may “plant” seeds, a stock tank full of corn to play in, a general store with an ice cream counter where play money is freely doled out, practice steers to rope with hoola hoop rings, set-ups for photo opportunities, and much, much more.
Gorillas lose hard-fought battle against Parkston

The #2 ranked 9A Gregory Gorillas left it all on the field in a heartbreaking last-minute loss to #8 ranked 9AA Parkston Friday night in the school’s Homecoming matchup. The Gorillas were first to get on the board when Rylan Peck found his target with Eli Fogel, who connected for an 80-yard touchdown run barely five minutes into the game.
Spikers defeat Bon Homme in five sets

Homecoming night for the Lady Spikers was a fun one. We went five sets with Bon Homme. We had lost to them at their own tournament a few weeks back and didn’t want a repeat loss; they rallied well! We finally seemed to hit a better stride for these past few matches. We have had to make adjustments all season to find it. Sapphire Kenzy had been out with a concussion, and we were able to put her back into the game for Homecoming. She is solid back row player, whom we need. We tried to run a 6-2 offense, but didn’t get enough practice time to make it run smoothly. Therefore, we went back to our 5-1 option with Jordan Svatos. This system seemed to work better until Jordan was injured. Again we made some changes, and the girls were able to overcome all the chaos of multiple substitutions and get a win.

Winner Regional awarded grant

Winner Regional Health and Wellness Foundation (Foundation) announced that it was awarded a $20,000.00 grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF). This past spring, the Foundation submitted a grant on behalf of the Driven to Serve Campaign, geared at raising $300,000.00 for the new 3D mammography. These funds helped secure the purchase of the new 3D mammography. On September 20th, Marilyn Grossenburg, board member for the South Community Foundation attended the donor appreciation event. This event afforded the Foundation the opportunity to extend their appreciation to the various donors, the SDCF, and to Marilyn for her support in helping bring the 3D mammography to Winner Regional Health. As noted previously, this was truly a community effort from foundations, businesses, and individual donors that made this a reality.

Eight students prepare for State Oral Interpretation Festival to be held this weekend

The Gregory Oral Interpretation Team participated in the region 5B oral interpretation competition on Nov. 18 in Pierre. Gregory had a very successful day with five of the seven pieces qualifying for the state festival.
