Governor Kristi Noem recently released the text of draft legislation to block Critical Race Theory (CRT) as the basis of education for South Dakota students. “Americans believe ‘all men are created equal,’ and we also believe the American dream is available to all regardless of race, color, or national origin,” said Governor Kristi Noem.
Taylor Even competes in State Leadership Development events

Taylor Even of Gregory County FFA qualified for the State Leadership Development events in Pierre, SD, December 5-6. Even competed in employment skills, which required filling out a job application, writing a cover letter, and submitting a resume for a job scenario before competing. At the contest she interviewed for a job with a panel of four judges and wrote a follow-up letter. To qualify for state, she placed second in the district out of almost 30 students. Three qualifiers from each district compete at state, and the first place finisher at state will compete at the national FFA contest. This was the first year Even competed, finishing ninth out of 21 contestants.

It’s the biggest shopping day of the year, but it isn’t Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or December 26. It is the Elementary Christmas Gift Giveaway, held every year at Gregory Elementary School.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas ... or at least it was on Friday, as the first named winter storm of the season, Atticus, blanketed the area with 11.5 inches of snow. This week’s warm temperatures in the mid to upper 40s should leave little of the white stuff behind. The next chance of precipitation is Wednesday, with a 60% chance of rain changing to snow and accumulations around an inch. Temperatures will drop as that system moves through, so any snow that falls will likely remain for awhile.
