National Volunteer Week Salutes 4-H Volunteers in Gregory County

Each year, thousands of volunteers in South Dakota donate their time and energy to make communities a better place to live. These volunteers will be among the millions across the country to be spotlighted during National Volunteer Week, April 20-26.

Gregory Elementary students win team trophy at Reading Olympics

Another year is “in the books” for the 2025 Reading Olympics, held April 11, 2025, at Winner Elementary School. 125 participants on 30 teams represented Gregory, Winner, Colome, and Burke schools. Gregory Elementary School brought 42 kids to the competition.

UJS launches new website to enhance access and usability

The South Dakota Unified Judicial System (UJS) is proud to announce the launch of its newlyredesigned website, which went live on April 15th. This upgraded platform is part of UJS’ ongoing commitment to improving transparency, accessibility and user experience for South Dakotans seeking information and services related to the state’s courts.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The two Bijou Hills adjacent to the Missouri River in south-central South Dakota were prominent landmarks for all voyagers who traveled up the river by boat or on land. The outcrops on both hills were clearly visible from the river and surrounding territory. They are part of a series of bold, irregular bluffs, much more elevated than any surrounding ones, extending for nearly thirty miles.
