Gregory County 4-H kicks off new year

Gregory County 4-H is kicking off the next year of activities. We are very excited for all this year holds- with shooting sports, programs and workshops, youth in action contests, and achievement days!

SDSU Extension Pesticide Applicator (PAT) Training to be held Jan. 22

Private applicator certification is required before an agricultural producer can purchase or use a restricted use pesticide. A producer who has the potential to produce more than $1,000 of an agricultural commodity must be certified to use any pesticide. There is no fee for a private applicator certification, which is valid for three years and expires on the last day of February.

USD Announces Fall 2024 Dean’s List

More than 2,500 students at the University of South Dakota are being honored for their high achievement during the fall 2024 semester with the release of the Dean’s List and Academic Honors. Full-time, undergraduate students are named to the Dean’s List if they received a 3.5 GPA for courses they took in the fall 2024 semester, and they had no incomplete or failing grades: Mya Determan, Coy Determan, Cassidy Keiser, Jordan Jo Svatos, Jessy Jo VanDerWerff..

Sons of American legion to meet

The Sons of the American Legion will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, January 16th, at the Legion Post in Gregory. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. and all members and potential members are encouraged to attend.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

One of the first areas in Dakota to be settled was the area along the northern edge of the Missouri River between Sioux City and Yankton. The earliest pioneer settlements in that area included Bon Homme, east of Springfield, Mixville below Fort Randall, Vermillion, Elk Point, and Yankton.
