It was less than a decade ago that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) finally abandoned its ill-conceived plan to require electronic eartags on all cattle, from the time of birth until slaughter. The plan was called NAIS, the National Animal Identification System, and in addition to mandatory electronic eartags or EID eartags, it also required cattle producers to register their premises and to report the movements of their cattle from one location to another during their lifespans.

Liam Lane (10) and his brother Max (6) will have their heads shaved to raise money to support Levi Atkins, son of Jeremy and Leslie Atkins, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia earlier this summer.

The ability for households to reduce waste through recycling is an easy and free way to help the environment, and the city of Gregory, along with a committed group of volunteers, has made this possible.

The South Dakota Office of Indigent Legal Services is pleased to announce that $3 million for indigent legal services costs will be reimbursed to the state’s counties in the coming weeks. The 2024 South Dakota Legislature appropriated $3 million to support counties in covering the cost of indigent legal services.
