A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The first ordained clergyman to visit the settlers in the Meckling area was Rev. Abraham Jacobson, in the fall of 1861. He had come to Dakota with Norwegian immigrants from Iowa and remained several months, holding frequent services which were wellattended by citizens who cherished the opportunity to hear a pastor’s sermon. He officiated at two weddings during his stay and baptized a number of the local citizens. Mr. Jacobson had not come with any intention of locating in the area, but more as a matter of recreation, and during the winter he returned home.
