The South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors is working toward figuring out the classifications and alignments for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. At its meeting Wednesday, six schools appealed their membership numbers. Membership numbers determine a school’s classification for sports and activities.

A rule change that was seen as a way to help struggling high school football teams died for a lack of a motion Wednesday at the meeting of the South Dakota High School Activities Association board of directors.

The five state Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Omaha Division marked an 83 percent increase in the number of fentanyl pills seized in 2023 and removed an estimated 2.9 million lethal doses of fentanyl both in pill and powder form, from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and eight counties along the western border of Illinois and Wisconsin. Nationally, the DEA seized more than 77 million fentanyl pills and nearly 12,000 pounds of fentanyl, amounting to more than 386 million deadly doses, enough to kill every American.

South Dakota State University Extension’s 2024 winter and spring private pesticide applicator certification training sessions are set. The live trainings are from 1:30 p.m.
