Attorney General Jackley supports FCC decision to ban AI-generated robocalls

SD Attorney General Marty Jackley is praising the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s decision to ban Artificial Intelligence-generated robocalls. The FCC decision, announced last week, makes illegal the voice cloning technology used in common robocall scams that target consumers.

Gov. Noem announces National Guard deployment to southern border

On February 20, Governor Kristi Noem announced that she will deploy South Dakota National Guard troops to the southern border later this spring. This will be the fifth time that the South Dakota National Guard has deployed to the southern border to assist in border security efforts during the Noem Administration.

Annual notification to foreign buyers

The Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act (AFIDA) requires all foreign owners of U.S. agricultural land to report their holdings to the Secretary of Agriculture. Foreign persons who have purchased or sold agricultural land in the county are required to report the transaction to Farm Service Agency within 90 days of the closing. Failure to submit the AFIDA form could result in civil penalties of up to 25 percent of the fair market value of the property. County government offices, realtors, attorneys and others involved in real estate transactions are reminded to notify foreign investors of these reporting requirements.

Doane University announces fall 2023 Dean’s List

Elenna Koenig, a sophomore, of Fairfax, SD, was among the students who were named to the Fall 2023 Dean’s List at Doane University. To make the Dean’s List, undergraduate students enrolled on the university’s Crete campus must earn a grade point average of 3.70 or higher in at least 12 graded credits during the semester.
