On July 1, 2023, two bills will become law that ensure everyone has the right to safe and healthy sexual relationship. The state legislature passed them, and the governor signed Senate Bill 90 and 91, which defined consent and made sex without consent a felony. As defined, consent is a person’s positive cooperation in act or attitude pursuant to the person’s exercise of free will. South Dakota was one of twenty-five states with no definition of consent in their state laws prior to the passage of these bills.

Although he was still alive after being attacked by the mother grizzly bear, the condition and future for Hugh Glass seemed to be hopeless. In 1751, the Pennsylvania Assembly ordered the bell to commemorate the commonwealth’s fiftieth anniversary of William Penn’s 1701 Charter of Privileges. Pen wrote of the liberties afforded by a people who trust, solemnly profess and worship - in his words - the “Almighty God being the only Lord of Conscience, Father of Lights and Spirits; and the Author as well as Object of all divine knowledge, faith, and worship; and in Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World.”
