The Homestead Act of 1862, which was passed on May 20th, accelerated the settlement of the western territory by granting adult heads of families 160 acres of surveyed public land. Claimants were required to live on and “improve” their plot by cultivating the land. After five years living on the land, the filer was entitled to the property, free and clear.

Funeral services to be held for Rodger Adams, 71 A funeral mass for Rodger Adams, age 71, of Papillion, NE, formally of Gregory, SD, will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Papillion, NE. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Luke Murray and Eli Barreto chosen to attend Boys State

Two Gregory High School junior boys will attend South Dakota Boys State May 29 - June 2, 2023, on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen. The Dallas American Legion post is sponsoring Trey Murray, and the Gregory post is sponsoring Eli Barreto.
