    Rumor drives up attendance at school board meeting

    A larger than normal audience gathered for the regular meeting of the Gregory School District Board of Education’s regular meeting at noon on Monday, May 11. During public input a couple people expressed their support for the school administration and appreciation for members of the school board for being involved when so few are willing to do so, especially when faced with criticism for the work they do. Other sentiments expressed the dedication of the staff, the quality learning experience, and highly regarded reputation of the school. These comments were likely in response to a rumor that had been circulating about a petition to fire the superintendent and principal.

    Class of 2026’s top one percent honored

    The Class of 2026’s top 1 percent of graduating high school seniors were recognized recently at the 36th Annual Academic Excellence Recognition luncheon. Governor Larry Rhoden’s office and the Associated School Boards of South Dakota (ASBSD) honored students identified as the top one percent of their senior class, from the state’s Public, Private, and Tribal/ BIE schools on Monday, April 27.

    Dakota Timanus earns UNL degree

    Dakota Nicole Timanus of Gregory was among a record 3,762 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during commencement exercises May 8-9. Timanus earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the College of Engineering.

    Gregory takes 90 entries to 5th-8th grade band contest

    On Friday, May 8th, the Gregory 5th-8th grade band students participated in the area instrumental solo music contest at Winner. Gregory had a total of 14 I+’s, 54 I’s, 12 I-‘s, 6 II+’s, 3 II’s, and 1 II- for a total of 90 entries.
