Dear Editor, Our mailboxes are groaning with political flyers, the signs are dotting everyone’s yards and highway- nuts, (even when I squint and look away from news coverage in Iran, drought, the fires, and the advice from hoards of preppers advising me to run out and stock up on canned meat, penicillin, and rice,) as I assume everyone else’s is, and it all feels way outside the circle of things we can control. So that leaves me looking around at the things we can influence, and what I see are our votes in our local elections.

Second graders’ Help Squad raises money for people in need

Anyone who thinks they can’t make a difference in this world, needs to meet Oaklee Hoffman, a second grader at Gregory Elementary School, who raised almost $1,000 at a lemonade stand for people in need.

Candidate forum draws large crowd

With upcoming primary runoffs for Republican representation for District 21 House and Senate seats, voters gathered on Monday evening, April 27, 2026, at God’s Country Event Center just across the Platte-Winner Bridge to learn more about the candidates and their views.

Legacy Five returns to the Gospel Barn

Legacy Five is making a return appearance at the Prairie View Gospel Barn at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2026. When the Legendary Cathedral Quartet retired in December of 1999, Scott Fowler and Roger Bennett decided to continue the rich musical tradition of Southern Gospel Quartet singing.

Legion Post #6 finds time capsule inside old flag pole

Last fall the Springer family donated a new flag pole to the Gregory American Legion Post #6. When the old pole was taken down, members were surprised to find a time capsule in the dome on top of the pole.
