On January 7, the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) announced it has procured one million Flowflex® COVID-19 Antigen home tests. These tests will be made available, free of charge, to residents that want one. These tests are in addition to the Vault Health® tests kits that have been available for over a year through the Department’s website.

On January 5, 2022, I joined several state and local officials for a deployment ceremony honoring the 235th Military Policy Company. The unit from the South Dakota National Guard is heading to Guantanamo Bay for a challenging operational mission.

The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) launched a new e-commerce system, Go Outdoors South Dakota. This system combines the purchases of hunting and fishing licenses with state parks camping reservations and other purchases.

The Gregory School District received its first delivery of beef as part of the Beef to School program. Shown above, l to r, are FFA students Ash Simison and Mason Peck, Gregory School employees Jared Schmitz and Ashley Lozano, and delivery driver Kevin Larsen. The 1500 pounds of ground beef came from donations of cows by Kenzy Family Backgrounding, Reber Ranch, and Graesser Ranch. Wall Meats processed the first cow free of charge; donations from Cenex, and Mr. Automotive and BankWest helped cover the processing costs for the other two. Students enjoyed their first lunch, spaghetti, using locally produced beef on Friday, January 7.
