A funeral service for Anna Marie Cahoy, 93, was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fairfax, SD, with Fr. Ron Garry officiating. Music was provided by Roberta Witt, pianist, and the St. Anthony choir. Lector was Joann Bentz. Charlie Adams and Barrett Koenig were altar servers. Monica Jons was in charge of registrations. Gift bearers were Talon Bentz and Leila Bentz. Darrell Bentz, Wade Bentz, Talon Bentz, Jonathan Cahoy, Monte Cahoy, and Mike Burke were casket bearers. Anna Marie was born December 25, 1931 in Spencer, NE, to Fred and Katie (Wuest) Schochenmaier. Anna Marie attended country school not far from her home. On February 20, 1952, she was married to Elmer Cahoy at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. To this union four children were born: Darrel in 1953, Joann in 1954, Ronnie in 1957, and Lonnie in 1963.
They lived on a farm south of Bonesteel where Anna Marie milked cows and raised her children. In 1962 they purchased a farm east of Fairfax and lived there until 1984. Elmer and Anna Marie then moved to a home in Bonesteel. She was involved in St. Anthony’s Altar Society and Royal Neighbors.
Anna Marie was a good grandma and great grandmother. Her eyes always lit up when the grandchildren came in the room.
In September of 2010 a car accident took her husband, and she continued to live in her home in Bonesteel until 2013, when she moved to the Haisch Haus in Bonesteel under the wonderful care of Monica and crew. She lived there for ten years.
March of 2023 found Anna Marie moving to Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, SD, where again she was well cared for.
Anna Marie Cahoy, formerly of Bonesteel, SD, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion, SD.
Anna Marie is survived by her daughter Joann (Darrell) Bentz of Fairfax, SD, and son Lonnie Cahoy of Brandon, SD; grandchildren Angel Bentz (Ja Packard), Wade (Heidi) Bentz, and Jonathan Cahoy; great grandchildren Talon and Leila Bentz and Lucy and Oliver Cahoy; sisters- in-law Lila Schochenmaier and Marjorie Schochenmaier, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, sons Darrel and Ronnie, parents Fred and Katie Schochenmaier, brothers Edmond, Albert, Henry, Herman, Alvin, Aldrew, and Raymond, and sisters Sarah Brown and Ranatha Burke.
Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
