Funeral services for Dennis Phillips were held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Burial was in the Winner City Cemetery, in Winner, SD. Mason Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Dennis Ralph Phillips was born June 14, 1946, to Ralph and Elsie (Brickman) in Winner, SD. In his childhood days, he grew up on grandpa and grandma Phillip’s farm. He went to West Banner Grade School until 1958 when he moved off the farm and went into Winner where he finished grade school and high school, graduating in 1964. Dennis was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church. He married Carol McIntosh on February 20, 1965, and were married 59 years. To this union one son Russell Todd was born on December 7, 1965.
He worked at Pharris Bakery in his high school years. He had also worked for Darrell Shippy at Winner Welding in 1964-1967, then went to work for John Carlson Construction until 1970. Soon after, Dennis went into partnership with Pat Murphy; they ran Car Care Center in the old Gus Stop, until Dennis bought Pat out in 1973. Still having Car Care in 1975, he bought Pizza Pub with Dennis Kidwiler, and sold it to Dennis in 1977. They moved the shop to the old Miller Bros. building until 1991. Dennis then bought Storms Liquor store, which he named Rosco’s Korner, which he ran until 2017, when he retired.
Dennis’s hobbies included working on race cars, with his son and grandson’s pit crew, and attending the races with them. He followed Nascar and went to some of the races in Vegas and Michigan. He enjoyed trap shooting in Winner and various other towns where he won some trophies. Dennis was also a volunteer fireman at the Winner Fire Department for 20 years.
Dennis Phillips, 78, of Winner, SD passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Winner Regional Healthcare Facility in Winner, SD.
Dennis is survived by his wife Carol; sister Charlotte (Pat) Moser of Rapid City, SD; brother Leo Kaiser of Council Bluffs, IA; daughter-inlaw Lorna Phillips of Winner, SD; granddaughter Megan (Mike) Cahoy of Colome, SD; grandson Cole (Taylor) Phillips of Whitewood, SD; two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law William (Delinda) McIntosh of Sioux City, IA; Marvin (Karen) McIntosh of Iona, SD; sister-in-law Mary McIntosh of Norfolk, NE; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Elsie Phillips; son Russel Todd Phillips; father-in-law Riley, and mother-in-law Rose McIntosh; and brothers-in-law Robert McIntosh, and Donald McIntosh.
