Julie was welcomed into the family by her sister Elaine (Larsen), eventually joined by brothers Stan, Jerry, Ray, Joe, Frank, Dave, and twin sisters Marie and Marilyn. Julie helped take care of her younger siblings, as well as learning how to cook and helping around the house. Julie attended all twelve grades in the Winner School system and graduated in 1961. Julie worked at the Outlaw Store Fountain, where she enjoyed serving ice cream and drinks to the customers.
In 1961 Julie met Ernie Schweigert, who was working at the telephone company in Winner at the time. Julie and Ernie were married November 24, 1961, at the Lutheran Church in Gregory, SD. They made their home in Gregory where Ernie was employed at the Gregory Hospital. To this union three children were born—Terry Lee, Susan Kay, and Grant Ethan.
Julie loved to garden and read. She was also an excellent cook and loved to bake goodies for family, friends, and co-workers, especially her crazy crunch and cookies. Julie worked at the Gregory Hospital also, as a nurses’ aide and later in the medical records department.
Julie married Dennis Masteller in May of 1987. Dennis was working at the Karl’s store in Gregory. They later moved to Rozet, WY, near Gillette. There, Dennis worked with his brother Terry, putting in water lines, ditching, carpentry work, and helping Terry with his livestock. Dennis passed away August 28, 2022, in hospice at Gillette, WY.
After Dennis passed, Julie moved back to Winner, SD, to an apartment where she lived until her health caused her to go into the Lake Andes Nursing Home.
