Kent grew up on the family farm, working alongside his father, and quickly discovered his love and passion for farming. He graduated from Pender Public School in 1970 and continued his education at the University of Nebraska until his father was injured and he was asked to return to the family farm. Kent married Colleen Holtz on March 23, 1974, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beemer, NE. To this union, they had two sons, Tyler and Tony.
Kent was involved in farming and cattle feeding his entire life. Locals could easily identify if Kent was in the area by his signature white pickup with the license plate “CATTLE”. He loved talking about cattle and was quick to find someone who shared that same interest. Kent was a supportive and kindhearted man who loved his family dearly. He enjoyed attending many of his kids’ and grandchildren’s sporting events and rodeos. Kent’s love for traveling took him to many National Finals Rodeo events and eventually led him and Colleen to buying a home in Arizona. While retired, Kent continued to play golf and quickly adapted to the Arizona lifestyle. He enjoyed going off-roading in their Razor and traveling through the desert in their Jeep.
Kent was a member of the Covenant Church in Pender until the church merged with the United Church of Pender. His faith was strong, and that was reflected when he became a member of the Masons and Shriners. He served on numerous boards throughout his life, including the Cuming County Feeders, where he served as the President, ILS (Innovative Livestock Services), Pender State Bank (Frontier Bank), Covenant Church of Pender, District 82 Country School, and the Pender-Thurston Education and Community Foundation Fund. In 2023, Kent and his family hosted the Cattleman’s Ball of Nebraska. On March 29, 2025, Kent was awarded the Trailblazer award presented by the Cuming County Feeders.
