Funeral services for Leona E. Littau were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winner, SD.

Interment was at the Winner City Cemetery. Mason Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Leona Emma (Kahler) Littau was born August 15, 1924, to Jake and Mollie (Neuharth) Kahler on a farm south of Burke, SD, the oldest of four children. She was baptized at Carlock Lutheran Church south of Gregory and then was confirmed there on June 11, 1939, along with her brother Edward.

Leona went to a country school and later moved to Burke, SD. Her parents bought a cream station there, which they operated for 20 years. After finishing school, she worked in a dry goods clothing store for three years.

On March 14, 1943, Leona was united in marriage to John B. Littau of Carter, SD. To this union were born four children—Melvin, Merlyn, and twins Larry and LaVonne. They made their home on a farm near Carter for 60 years until August of 2002, when they moved to Winner to be near doctor care. After falling and breaking her hip, Leona moved into Elder Inn Assisted Living on January 26, 2021, until February 24, 2025.

Leona enjoyed her family and friends, cooking, baking, gardening, crocheting afghans, and doing crafts. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and bible group.

Leona Littau, age 100, passed away on March 8, 2025, at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center Nursing Home in Winner, SD.

She is survived by her four children: Melvin (Cheryl) Littau of Winner, Merlyn (Sharon) Littau of Winner, Larry (Michelle) Littau of Queen Creek, AZ, and LaVonne (Ray) Schweigert of Gregory; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Edna Haase of Valentine, NE, and brother-in-law Ted (Phyllis) Littau of Winner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John B. Littau, one grandson Chad Littau, brothers Edward and Victor Kahler, and sister Luverna Olson.
