Funeral services for Linda Louise Schmitz were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel, SD, with Father Ron Garry officiating.

Music was provided by the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Choir with Roberta Witt as accompanist. Emmie and Masen Hausmann were altar servers, and Kale and Wyatt Schmitz presented the gifts.

Kale Schmitz, Wyatt Schmitz, Duke Halloran, Rick Connot Randy Connot, and Jason Frasch were casket bearers, and Jesse Swallow was an honorary casket bearer.

Interment was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bonesteel, SD. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Linda Louise (Smolik) Schmitz was born August 1, 1951, to Harry and Mary (Opbroek) Smolik of Fairfax, SD. She was united in marriage to Larry Schmitz of Bonesteel, SD, on September 5, 1970. To this union two children were born.

Linda worked as a cook for Bonesteel-Fairfax High School for many years. She also would spend her summers painting homes around Bonesteel. She was an active member at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bonesteel until she moved to Nebraska to be with her sons and grandchildren.

Linda’s favorite pastimes were crocheting blankets, reading, spending time with friends, playing cards, and enjoying watching all the little children around her. And above all she adored spending time with her two grandsons.

Linda passed away March 16, 2025, at Haven Manor in Hickman, NE, at the age of 73 years.

Linda is survived by her children Chris Schmitz of Lincoln, NE, and Shawn (Nicole) Schmitz; grandsons Kale and Wyatt Schmitz of Hickman, NE; sisters Arlene Shuster of Beavercreek OH, and Margie Halloran of Garland, TX; brothers-in-law JR Ray, Marvin (Eileen) Schmitz, Ray (Lisa) Schmitz; sisters-in-law Kaye Smolik, Leona Swallow, and Linda (Mike) Schochenmaier; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Mary; her husband Larry; brothers Maurice and Romain; sisters Donna Baker and Marlene Ray; sister-in-law Marie Vosika; brothersin- law Barry Baker, Kenneth (Tip) Tipton, Phil Halloran, John Shuster, and Don Swallow; and nieces Pamela Baker and Jackie McCreary.
