Funeral services for Marilyn Weidner were held Thursday, January 18, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfax, SD, with Pastor Bill Heermann officiating. Music was provided by Judy Gies, organist, and Nicole Cerny and Heather Uecker were in charge of registration. Casket bearers were Matt Cerny, Adam Cerny, Aaron Bye, Joel Uecker, Ernie Wright, and Josh Bonstead. Interment was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfax, SD.Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Marilyn Rose Jensen was born December 6, 1932 at Lake Andes, South Dakota to Anton and Rose (Cotton) Jensen. Marilyn was baptized on January 22, 1933 at West Lake Andes Lutheran Church and was later confirmed there on May 4, 1947.
The oldest of seven children, Marilyn, her sisters Carol, Louise, Mary Ellen, Sandra, Nila and brother Helmer, grew up on the ranch on Scalp Creek.
On June 16, 1958, Marilyn married William (Billy) Weidner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfax, SD. To this union three children were born: Kathy, Mark and Kristy.
Marilyn liked to bake, especially cakes and cookies. She also liked to crochet, spending many hours making hand towels to hang in the kitchen. Many of these were given away as gifts. Puzzles were also a favorite pastime. The highlight of her life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was always time for playing games and reading stories. No child ever left grandmas house without having cookies or a treat of some kind.
Marilyn lived at the Haisch Haus Assisted Living in Bonesteel, and had recently moved to the Lake Andes Senior Living facility. She passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, at the age of 91 years.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Billy; her parents; brother Helmer and sister Louise.
Marilyn is survived by her three children: Kathy and Brad Cerny of Fairfax, SD; Mark Weidner of Fairfax, SD and Kristy and Kenny Uecker of Wagner, SD; six grandchildren: Matthew and Nicole Cerny, Adam and Samantha Cerny, Chantel and Aaron Bye, Megan and Josh Bonstead, Heather Uecker, and Ernie Wright, Joel and Jayd Uecker; seven great-grandchildren: Ryker, Conlee, Reed, and Parker Cerny, Stanley and James Bye, and Levi Bonstead; her sisters: Carol Schroeder, Mary Ellen Vogt, Sandra Cahoy and Nila (Ronnie) Koenig and sister –in-law Viola Wittmuss as well and many nieces, nephews and friends.
