Mary Katzer

A Mass of Christian burial for Mary Jane Katzer was held at 10:00 a.m on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Butte, NE, with Fr. Ross Berkhalter officiating.

Music was provided by Pat Thiry, organist. David and Carmen Schmitz served as lector and extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. Casket bearers were David Katzer, Mark Katzer, Nate Katzer, Kyle Katzer, Dennis Katzer, and Paul Weiss.

Interment was at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Naper, NE. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Katzer was born February 8, 1942 at Lynch, NE, to Gene and Ada (Green) Riesselman. She attended Basin Country School and graduated from Naper High School. She graduated from the University of Nebraska and taught elementary school at the Lincoln Public Schools for 30 years.

Mary Jane was united in marriage to Kenneth Katzer in 1960. Together they had four children: Timothy, Theresa, Mark and David.

Mary Jane enjoyed tending to her many flowers in her yard and on the patio.

Mary Jane Katzer, age 83, died on May 9, 2025, at the Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband Kenneth; sons Mark and David; daughter-in-law Daria; grandchildren: Kyle, Krystal and Nate; greatgrandchild Brandon; brother Merle Riesselman; sister Mable Sattler; brother-in-law Dennis Katzer; sisters-in-law Ruth Lewis, Myrna Weiss, Linda Dunn; as well as several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Ada; as well as her children Timothy and Theresa.
