A Mass of Christian burial for Robert Walth was held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fairfax, SD, with Father Jonathan Dillon officiating. Angie Horst was lector, Ava and Emmie Hausmann were servers and Larry and Carleen Cahoy presented the gifts.

Music was provided by the Immaculate Conception and St. Anthony’s Church choirs, accompanied by Roberta Witt, organist. Deb Ford and Clara Waterbury were in charge of registration.

Casket bearers were Brian Stahlecker, Jeremy Krueger, Kevin Stahlecker, Aaron Krueger, Eric Krueger, Matthew Baker, Colin Walth, Tommy Walth, Rylan Walth, Justin Walth, Kacen Walth, and all of his grandsons.

Interment was in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Fairfax, SD. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Wayne Walth was born June 26, 1930 at Bonesteel, South Dakota to Emanuel and Julia (Turnovec) Walth, joining brother Jim and sister Betty. He died February 25, 2024 at his home in Bonesteel, SDa surrounded by his family at the age of 93 years.

Bob attended the Bentz Country School and Fairfax High School. He quit school to help his dad on the farm before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska to work for the railroad. He was drafted into the Army in March of 1952, spending two years in Washington DC. He returned home and took over the family farm in 1954.

On June 2, 1956 he was united in marriage to Nettie Horst at the Catholic Church in Herrick, South Dakota. Together they worked the fields, milked the cows, slopped the hogs, fed the chickens and raised six children. He enjoyed carpentry work and was always ready to help someone.

Due to health conditions, Bob and Nettie moved to Bonesteel and he continued working for the Fairfax School as a janitor and preschool bus driver until his retirement. Bob enjoyed family and friends and never turned down a card game or missed an activity his kids, grandkids or great-grandkids were involved in.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-inlaw Reuben and Viola Horst, his brother, his sister, his two sisters-inlaw and one brother-in-law, one granddaughter Stephanie Walth, and one great-grandson Tate Krueger.

Bob is survived by his wife Nettie; six children: Cindy and Doug Mc-Farland; Sandy and Dan Krueger; Robin and James Baker; Rick and Julie Walth; Randy and Darcy Walth and Ronnie and Suzy Walth; 28 grandchildren, 60 plus great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
