Funeral services for Ruth Elliott was held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gregory, SD, with Father Jonathan Dillon officiating. Music was provided by the congregation, accompanied by Mary Beth Gergen, pianist. Kelsey Bauer and Amber Wilhelmsen were in charge of registration and were flower attendants. Casket bearers were Philip Kahler, Brady Peck, Hayden Bauer, and Jax Bauer. Interment was in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Ruth Marlene (Dykeman) Elliott was born on the farm southeast of Colome, SD, on September 2, 1934, to Ralph and Edith (Hauf) Dykeman. She graduated from Colome High School in 1952, and then attended Springfield Teachers College.

Ruth was baptized at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Colome on August 8, 1954, and confirmed on July 29, 1959.

On August 11, 1959, Ruth was united in marriage to Raymond Elliott at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Colome, SD.

She worked as a teller for Northwest National Bank then for Norwest Bank, both of Gregory for many years.

Ruth and Raymond lived most of their lives in Tripp or Gregory County. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona and then later in Texas, and camping at the Missouri River with friends and family. They also enjoyed traveling and made some memorable trips to Hawaii and Alaska. Ruth lost her husband in 2004, but continued to spend winters in Texas until a few years ago when her health would not allow it.

Ruth moved to the Avera Rosebud Country Care Center in 2020 and lived there until her passing on March 3, 2024. Ruth remained active at St. Joseph Catholic Church, attending mass at the nursing home when she was able.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters: Irene Kahler and Lila Gossard; and brother Denny Dykeman.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews and their families.
