Tiera Lynne Hurlbert

Tiera Lynne Hurlbert was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 15, 1960. She was the daughter of Harold and Joan (Fulwider) Hurlbert. Tiera attended elementary school in Idaho Falls, ID, middle school in Salt Lake City, UT, and graduated from high school in Winner, SD, in 1978. Later she would graduate from Black Hills State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

For several years, Tiera lived in Winner, where she worked at the Winner Advocate. She also worked at the Ramada Inn from 1994 to 1997. Tiera lived in Sioux Falls for a short time afterwards, where she worked for Gateway Computers for one year. In 1998, Tiera received the life- changing news that she had adult-onset epilepsy. Shortly after, she moved to the Colome, SD, and lived with relatives on a family farmstead. In 2019, she moved to Spearfish and lived at the Hickory House for several years. Since January of 2024, Tiera resided at the Rolling Hills Healthcare Center in Belle Fourche.

Tiera will be remembered for being an “old soul.” Most of her friends were older than she. She dearly loved her friends at the Hickory House. She loved music greatly, and she enjoyed teaching her niece, Jaimie, the things she knew. Tiera was intelligent, and she enjoyed reading. She believed that the human body is finite and the soul infinite. And she strongly believed in the value of holistic ways of health. She was kind, caring, and generous.

Tiera is survived by her sister Tami Turner of Spearfish, brother Monte (Ellen) Hurlbert of Bozeman MT, nieces and nephews, Forest, Brook, August, Paris, Matteo, Jeremy, and Jaimie. She is also survived by her longtime companion “Pepper”, her cat. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, and brother-in-law, Scott Turner.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
