Funeral services for Loris Matcha were held on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Burke Civic Center in Burke, SD, with Reverend Thaniel Certa-Werner officiating.

A memorial service for Jack Hansen, age 70, of O’Neill, NE, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill, NE. Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill, NE, which was in charge of arrangements. John Henry Hansen was born on February 18, 1954 to John and Agnes (Michalek) Hansen in Dallas, SD. He attended country schools in rural Burke, SD, and rural Bassett, NE, before attending Rock County High School. In his early years, Jack really enjoyed life and riding motorcycles. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Jack married Angela Philbrick in Burke, SD, on July 1, 1985. The couple spent the next thirty-plus years living in many places, but always finding themselves back in O’Neill, NE.

Funeral services for Claude Andersen were held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Clausen Funeral Home in Burke, SD, with Reverend Thaniel Certa-Werner officiating.

A Mass of Christian burial for Jack Hartinger, was held on August 10, 2024, at Saint Therese The Little Flower Catholic Church in Rapid City, SD. A committal service was held on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Jack Wayne Hartinger was born in Mobridge, SD on July 5, 1926 to Victor and Grace (Anderson) Hartinger, the second of six children. Jack married Violet Katherine Mauch on June 14, 1946, at Astoria, OR, while he was in the Navy. To this union two daughters were born, Jackie and Vickie. Jack took basic training in Coeur D'Alene, ID. Jack was on a tugboat that took decommissioned boats to be disposed of. As Seaman First class, this was part of his job.

A celebration of life was held at the Denver Zen Center, in Denver, CO, on May 17, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. There will also be a celebration of life held at the Naper Community Hall in Naper, NE, on August 17, 2024. Travis Lee Heermann was born October 22, 1969, and was raised on the family farm near Naper, NE, where his great-grandparents John and Bertha Ludemann homesteaded. Travis graduated from Naper Public School in 1987. He was married to Chanel (Vandewege) on May 29, 2015, and they enjoyed many adventures together. Travis went on to receive a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, a master’s degree in English from the University of Nebraska Omaha, and was an Odyssey Writing Workshop graduate. He was an instructor at the University of Nebraska Omaha English Department, facilitator for Lighthouse Writers Workshop, and English teacher in Fukuoka, Japan through the JET Program and was able to write and speak Japanese. Travis went on to become an author, freelance writer, award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker, publisher, and editor.

Funeral services for Belinda Gunvordahl were held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Union Baptist Church in Burke, SD, with Pastor Mark Tuttle officiating.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m., on July 29, 2024, at the Prairie View Gospel Barn in Gregory, SD. Todd Lee Schrader was born in Burke, SD to Harlin and Doris (Freeman) Schrader on August 15, 1966. Todd lost his battle with cancer on July 8, 2024, while residing with his mother in Harlan, IA. Todd graduated from Poudre High School in 1984 in Ft. Collins, CO. He graduated from Larimer County Community College in Cheyenne, WY, with a degree in auto body repair. Todd’s talent and love for bull riding led him on many adventures throughout the country. He started riding bulls at a young age riding in Little Britches Rodeos, high school, college, and then Pro Bull Riding. While living in Nebraska and working at a power plant, Todd became interested in electricity. He then moved to Colorado and worked as an apprentice electrician for several years getting his journeyman electrical license. He was a natural at electrical work, he could talk to someone on the phone and get a problem solved.

A memorial service for Elsie Berg was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday July 18, 2024 at Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley, CO. Burial was on Friday July 19, 2024, in the Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery in Centennial, CO. Stoddard Funeral & Cremation & Sunset Memorial Gardens were in charge of arrangements. Elsie was born on May 31, 1920 in Carter, SD, and was the fourth oldest of ten children born to John and Lydia Burr. She was born to an immigrant father who came to America from Russia. Elsie grew up on a farm in Burke, SD, and lived in a sod house. Being raised on a farm, before the invention of sliced bread (invented 1928), Elsie learned to be a hard worker. Summers were spent in the fields weeding, and the falls were spent harvesting. Elsie was always found helping the family out. When Elsie wasn’t working in the fields she was working in the kitchen, or taking care of her siblings. Additional duties included ironing clothes, fixing meals, and cleaning the house.

Funeral service were held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD. Burial was in the Colome City Cemetery, in Colome, SD. Mason funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Vernon was born on November 9, 1933, to John and Lydia (Miller) Herrmann in Dallas, SD. Vern met his wife in Millboro, SD after he asked her to dance. They were married on August 6, 1957, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, south of Colome. They were married for over 66 years. They lived on a ranch in Millboro, SD where they raised cattle and other livestock throughout the years until they retired. Vern loved playing music and could play a variety of instruments and was a championship winning fiddle player. He would keep a list of hundreds of song titles in his wallet that he would play at random. Vern was a member of the Bob Kenaston and The Country Tones band. He loved attending dances with Marilyn at the Carlock and other dance halls, playing cards and tending to his ranch near Millboro, SD.
