Gregory 73 vs. Marty 45 The Gregory Gorillas defeated the Marty Braves on Friday night, March 7, in the Region 5B basketball action.

Lady Gorillas end season in loss to C-S

The Lady Gorillas faced off against Corsica-Stickney in the first round of region 5B playoffs to end their season with a 6-15 record. “We felt like we were in the game at halftime,” Coach Lonnie Klundt said of the 21-32 deficit, “but Corsica-Stickney went on a 6-0 run to start the third quarter and we could not get the game close again.” The game ended with a score of 35-59.

Eklund places second, Paris makes history at state

by Patty Connealy The South Dakota State Wrestling Tournament was held February 27-March 1, 2025, in Rapid City, and the Burke/Gregory Storm was two for two for medal winners. After a very successful regular season at 190 pounds, Jhett Eklund dropped down to 175 to win the region tournament and earn a #2 seed at state.

Fifth grade boys secure two 2nd place finishes in Nebraska

The 5th grade boys have been busy the last two weekends playing in tournaments in Stuart, NE and Valentine, NE. In the Valentine 5th and 6th grade tournament, Gregory won their first two round robin games 37-6 against Valentine’s 5th grade team and 31-13 against Ainsworth.

Two wrestlers and one alternate headed to state

The girls high school Region 3 wrestling tournament was held February 20, 2025, in Aberdeen. Daytona Paris punched her ticket for her second state tournament appearance with a fourth place finish, winning two of her four matches. A win against Hannah Zeigler of Miller/ Highmore-Harrold in the consolation rounds put her in the match for third, but Liliana Luque of Mitchell got the upper hand in that contest.

Lady Gorillas close out season with 43–39 victory over Bon Homme

The lady gorillas traveled to Tyndall on February 21, 2025, to take on the Bon Homme Cavaliers. This was a close game throughout the contest. Gregory had quarter stops of 12, 21, 31, and 43, while Bon Homme had stops of 8, 19, 31, 39. Gregory shot six of 23 on twos and eight of 25 on threes and collected seven of 13 on free throws. Gregory put three players in double digits and five in the scoring column. Dani VanDerWerff had 15, Ashlyn Vosika, 12, Regan Graesser, 10, Alison Stevicks 4, and Sadie Carlson, 2.

Boys end regular season with 18-2 record

Gregory 61 vs. Wagner 55 In a hard — fought contest, the Gregory Gorillas held off the Wagner Red Raiders last Tuesday night with a final score of 61-55. Gregory set the pace early, surging to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter. The Gorillas kept a slight advantage in the second quarter, finishing the half with a score of 29-22. Both teams picked up the scoring in the third quarter and the Gorillas led 45-37 heading into an exciting fourth quarter. In a tense final period, the Red Raiders cut the Gorilla lead to one point with two minutes remaining but the Gorillas regained control in the final minute, securing the 61-55 victory.
