FFA competitions ramp up as Harvest winds down

While it feels like I just wrote my first article last week, this happens to be the last. I have enjoyed writing these updates and promoting agriculture while trying something new.

Local Oral Interpretation contest held at GHS

On October 24, Gregory High School held its annual oral interpretation contest to decipher who would represent Gregory at the local district competition. Only one entry is allowed for each of the seven categories - duets, oratory, poetry, humorous, storytelling, serious, and readers theatre.

Spikers fall to Burke in region tournament

The Gregory Spikers volleyball team headed into the Region 5B tournament as a #4 seed to face #5 Andes Central/Dakota Christian in the first round. The Spikers had beaten AC/DC right before the tournament, and repeated that performance, winning in four sets, 3-1.

Spikers to face AC/DC in first playoff game

The Gregory Spikers volleyball team finished up their regular season of play on Monday, October 23, at home, hosting the Andes Central/ Dakota Christian Thunder. Gregory came out on top, winning in three games, 25-23, 25-21, and 25-15.

Gorillas finish season at Canistota

The Gregory Gorillas finished their 2023 season with a 5-5 record after losing in the second round of Class A football playoffs to Canistota last Thursday in Canistota. The Hawks came out early in the first quarter, scoring on a 76-yard pass less than 20 seconds into the game.

Gorillas win in first round of football playoffs

The Gorillas put down Harding County/Bison in a decisive 46-14 victory in the first round of playoffs on Thursday, October 19, in Buffalo. The Gorillas entered the Class B state football playoffs as a #12 seed, placed in the bracket against the #5 Harding County/Bison Ranchers for the first round.

A month after a pig heart transplant, man works to regain strength

It’s been a month since a Maryland man became the second person to receive a transplanted heart from a pig — and hospital video released Friday shows he’s working hard to recover. Lawrence Faucette was dying from heart failure and ineligible for a traditional heart transplant because of other health problems when doctors at the University of Maryland School of Medicine offered the highly experimental surgery.
